Starting today, our Brolo vineyard has become the sweetest of homes for 50 hives of busily-pollinating honeybees that are the latest addition to the Berlucchi Family.
Each hive houses more than 30,000 bees of mellifera ligustica, more commonly known as the Italian bee, a particularly gentle and hard-working subspecies.
These irreplaceable allies of the environment will work all summer long gathering nectar and honeydew, producing not only our precious honey but pollinating numerous plant species in our local ecosystem, thereby maintaining invaluable biodiversity.
We can hardly wait to watch them at work and, when September comes around, to taste the sweet fruit of their labors!
